Penny Burke is a talented regional Australian songwriter known for her contributions to country music, capturing the essence of honest storytelling through her songs about family, resilience, celebration, and the people who shape our lives.
With a warm, unmistakably Australian voice, Penny’s music blends heartfelt storytelling with a grounded country style that feels both intimate and expansive. Whether performing live or writing from the road, she brings authenticity and sincerity to every lyric and melody.
Originally from Cloncurry in North West Queensland, Penny began her journey as a songwriter by singing at just 12 years of age, stepping onto stages with the confidence and heart that would come to define her artistic path.
In 2004, Penny released her debut EP Local Pub, produced by acclaimed musician and producer Stuie French at Swingin’ Doors Studio in Sydney. After some time away from recording, Penny felt a strong pull to return to her songwriting roots and share the stories that had been quietly building over the years.
Her latest album marks a deeply personal chapter in her musical journey within the country music genre. Several of the twelve songs were inspired by her wonderful fiancé Graeme, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. His belief in the music — and in Penny — helped shape the stories and spirit woven throughout the record.
Over the past twelve months, Penny has collaborated closely with David and Merelyn Carter of Carter & Carter and Crestway Productions, along with Graeme, carefully refining each of the songs. Seven of the twelve tracks are self-penned, while the remaining songs are collaborations with David and Merelyn Carter, Greg Champion, Corey Stewart, Graeme Walker, and the late Lindsay Biggins.
Recording for the album began at Chris Pettifer’s Ritzland Music Studio, with the remaining sessions completed at The Song Store under the guidance of producers Adrian Hannan and David & Merelyn Carter. The project also features the musical talents of Brett Wood, Haydn Meggitt, and Kit Riley, with additional contributions from Pete Denahy, Bill Risby, Michel Rose, and Adrian Hannan, bringing colour, depth, and joy to the album’s sound.
With new singles rolling out throughout 2026 and the full album 'Always Be There' set for release in December, Penny Burke continues to share music that is honest, heartfelt, and unmistakably Australian.
